How these estimates work
These are illustrations, not forecasts or investment recommendations. Change the assumptions to explore different outcomes.
- Growth and goal tools use an annual nominal rate divided by 12, compounded monthly, with contributions at each month-end.
- Goal cost increases by your assumed annual inflation. Starting savings grow at the assumed return; the monthly amount fills the remaining gap.
- Taxes, fees, market volatility and changes in cash flows are excluded. Actual returns can be lower or negative.
- Emergency coverage equals reserve divided by monthly essentials. The target is your choice; the time to build it ignores interest and assumes a constant monthly contribution.
- Business runway equals available cash divided by monthly outflows less monthly inflows. If inflows cover outflows, there is no net burn under those assumptions.
